Virginia Metalcrafters POINSETTIA Brass Leaf Dish - Vintage Leaf Shaped Tray Dated 1948 Copyright - Brass Home Decor

Sorry, this item has sold.

Vintage heavy solid brass Poinsettia leaf dish by Virginia Metalcrafters from 1948. There are 3 small feet on the underside of this wonderful solid brass leaf dish so that it stands up without rocking. There is nice detail on the leaf inside showing the veins and a great curved end (that is like a handle).

*See NOTE below about Virginia Metalcrafters, who made this home decor and collectible item.

The copyright symbol and other identifying information is on the front near the stem - the word Copyright, 194X (I can't read the end date of the year clearly), the design number 4-11, the logo for Virginia Metalcrafters, and the word POINSETTIA, which is the kind of leaf that this is.

Measures approx. 6 1/2" long x 4 7/8" wide.

Condition is excellent with age appropriate patina.

*NOTE: Virginia Metalcrafters was founded on October 6th, 1890, as the W.J. Loth Stove Company. Located in Waynesboro, Virginia, on the western slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

Although World War II halted the casting of brass products, immediately after the war, the company continued developing the gift line. 1946 they hired an internationally known sculptor, Oskar Hansen, whose works included the huge angels seen today at either end of the Hoover Dam. Hansen settled in Nelson County, just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and carved may patterns for Captain Dick, among them, dozens of leaf shapes. Modeled directly from nature, these leaves range in size from 3 inches to 40 inches.

The leaf dish is quite handsome & looks great for an item from 1948. I also appreciated the seller's interesting history of Virginia Metalworkers, the careful packaging, and the speedy delivery.
