An antique white enamel tall lidded chamber pot with a handle. It has some black trim detail on the lid edge. The handle of this enamelware bucket or pail has a wooden section in its middle making it easier to grab. The two piece rustic farmhouse decor item is circa 1920s. There is chipping of the enamel on the top lid and on the bottom as well making it very rustic looking.
What is a chamber pot?
Before the advent of indoor plumbing, people who needed to go to the bathroom at night would use a chamber pot to urinate into. Most of them would fit under a bed. This one is a larger size. The chamber pot would then be emptied it in the morning. If a person had a maid, she would empty the pot or pots as part of her morning duties. (Lucky lady...)
This pre-indoor plumbing chamber pot or pail with a round lid has no holes.
