Antique Silver & Crystal Salt / Pepper or Sugar Shaker Castor Set - 1880s Meriden Conn Britannia Company - Retro Art Nouveau Serving Kitchen

Sorry, this item has sold.

2 Piece Antique Silverplate and Crystal Salt or Pepper and sugar shaker Set that was made by the Meriden Conn Britannia Company in the 1890s. The crystal shaker and the pour container are decorated with both etched and cut glass designs and have silver plate lids. I believe that this is a salt or pepper shaker and a sugar server.

The tall shaker has a threaded top with a portion that unscrews so that it can be refilled.

The shorter container has a hinged lid that opens for use to pour the contents out and for refilling.

Measurements:
tall -
short -

These 2 wonderful serving pieces were made by the Britannia Company of Meriden, Connecticut and includes a tall and a short container. These two are typical of some of the table condiment serving pieces that were used in the nineteenth century.

Usually these types of cut-glass containers were part of a complete set that was in something called a "caster" that also included cruets for oil and vinegar. They rested inside a frame that was a base raised on feet with rings to hold the cruets and other containers - some other containers were sugar and mustard in addition to salt and pepper, oil and vinegar.

There are no chips or cracks to the crystal containers. Some slight wear commensurate with antique age as they are quite old.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
