Lovely wall decor that is Della Robbia style, that is both colorful and functional as it features this delicious basket of fruit and is also a small shelf. Detail on the fruit and the leaves is very nice and even shows the inside of a pomegranate with the seeds exposed.
In great vintage condition with no chips or cracks on the front. The back does show its age - see last photo. The painted plaster design is inspired by the work of Italian sculptor Luca della Robbia and was popular back in the day when many wreaths and other home decor used the classic "Della Robbia" with a multi color raised fruit in the design.
Measures 6" across and is 11" long.
NOTE:
The origins of the Della Robbia style come from the Renaissance 14th century Florentine sculptor, Lucca Della Robbia and his progeny, who popularized the use of natural themes. Over the years, the Della Robbia style has been seen in many different forms and is now closely associated with Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.
