Set of three wood framed Feathercraft birds under glass. The three birds are on branches and are made with real feathers and are red, blue and yellow and matted with a teal green around each bird. Each framed bird in the set is slightly different but made for a wall grouping. Two birds face left and one faces right.
The frames are wood and are beveled. Each has the original backing complete with a taped down nail for hanging that was never used. This wall grouping is from the Reliance Industries Inc. of Chicago, Illinois and measures 5' x 7'.
In nice vintage condition with light signs of wear. My best guess is that these are circa 1960s.
NOTE:
Mexican Feathercraft was already an ancient art when Cortes visited Mexico in 1521 and he referred to the feather work as feather jewels of the Aztecs. Birds were a prominent part of Aztec mythology and remain in their symbology today.
Feathercraft is a painstaking work of applying tiny feathers one by one to a paper pattern and building up to the long tail feathers. The work is further defined with painted background details (in this case it looks like tempera). This particular painting is of a red cardinal. It is presented in a hand carved frame and under glass. The back is sealed with paper and old paper tape. A brief history of Feathercraft is attached to the backing.
