Vintage Clarice Jane Compact - Ivory Enamel Gold Trim Stripes - Enamel Compact - Mid Century with Art Deco Look Makeup Compact by C J Inc
Classy vintage ivory and gold enamel compact with 3 gold intersecting lines on the cover. The back side is plain ivory colored with no lines. This vintage compact still looks great and the crossed lines give it an Art Deco look. This compact is probably from the 1940 to 1950 era.
Two gold compartments inside: one for lipstick and one for powder. Original lipstick in a peachy color is still in the compartment. Powder compartment is empty but the puff is still there. Puff has "Clarice Jane" embroidered on it and it fits under a small loop that holds it in place.
Inside there is a hallmark that says C J INC on the side of this compact. Obviously this stands for Clarice Jean - the name on the powder puff - see NOTE below.
Measures 2 1/8" square. Very thin and sleek.
Nice vintage condition with all enamel intact. Slight wear on case and some light impressions upon close inspection. There is one area that shows discoloration/wear on the enamel as seen on the center front of photo #1. The price reflects this condition.
NOTE:
Elgin American entered the ladies’ compact field with a patented “powder box”. Elgin produced and marketed compacts under a variety of names, including: Elgin American, EAM, American Beauty, and Clarice Jane. The Clarice Jane cases were smaller and somewhat more ornate, making them very collectible.e
