Vintage or antique Angelus cast metal bookend that features the couple praying at noon in the field with a church in the background that is depicted in a painting called "The Angelus". This famous painting, The Angelus (L'Angelus), was done by French painter Jean-François Millet and it was completed between 1857 and 1859. This man and woman praying had has become an iconic symbol used in a variety of ways including this heavy bookend.

This single Angelus bookend has a dark burnished copper color and has some vintage green felt on the bottom to protect surfaces from being scratched.

It would be a great library decor item with such wonderful patina. Captures the iconic characters and a religious theme that had been celebrated since the late 1800s.

Measures 4 1/2" high and 4 1/2" wide. About 2" deep.

The bookend is nice vintage or antique condition with lots of patina and wear. This item is probably circa 1920-1940s.
