Vintage Locket Necklace 12K Gold Filled Monogrammed H F B Co. Pendant 2 Photo Compartments - 12K GF Round Locket on Fine 12K GF Chain
Sweet dainty round vintage 12K gold filled locket and chain featuring a feminine cursive monogram of the initials MES on the front. Inside the locket are two photo compartments each with the frame intact. The bale of the locket has a few decorative lines that form a "V" shape. The back of the locket is plain with no design. The locket opens from the side. The chain clasp has a spring ring closure.
The locket closes securely with a snap. The spring ring clasp also closes securely.
The round locket 3/4" is in diameter and this vintage locket hangs from a fine, dainty vintage 12K gold filled chain that is 16" in length.
The locket is circa early to mid 1900s when the H. F. Barrows Company was producing this type of jewelry.
The locket is marked 1/20 12K GF H F B for the H. F. Barrows Company on the inside. The chain is marked 1/20 12K on the spring ring and on a loop near the clasp it is also marked H F B Co. 1/20 12K GF. See below for more about the H F Barrows Company.
The H.F. Barrows Company was founded in 1854 in Attleborough Falls, Massachusetts by Henry Francis Barrows, Sr. The firm passed to his sons Henry, Jr. and Ira. The company was widely known for its gold chains, but it successfully diversified when watches with chains fell out of fashion after World War I. The company produced jewelry into the 1960s.
12K Gold filled metal locket necklace is in nice vintage or antique condition with some age appropriate patina and wear on both the locket and the chain. Note that on the back there is a small area with loss of gold fill on the bottom center and has more wear/scratching than the front - see photos. Item's price reflects these conditions.
