Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Native Statues / Bookends - Ebony Figurines Tribal Tanzania Hand Carved Dark Wood Pair
A pair of rich dark hand carved wooden tribal bookends or figurines/statues. They are a dark, dark brown almost black in color and are quite heavy, as ebony wood is a dense dark hardwood. The wood itself is finely-textured with a smooth finish when polished,and is commonly used as an ornamental wood.
This set would be a great addition to any mid century modern décor. One of the figures has hair with a long center bang section and earrings that go all the way down to the base. The other one is bald with what looks like elongated earrings. To me, they look like male and female figures. There are diagonally carved lines on the side edges providing a nice decorative touch.
There are two of these tribal figures, they are hand carved, and they are not identical. One seems thinner featured and one is wider and had slightly broader features - see description above.
The backs of both are plain.
One has a sticker on the bottom that says MADE IN TANZANIA.
The two pieces measure approximately 9 inches tall by inches 2 1/2 wide by 3 1/2 inches deep.
This pair is quite heavy weighing in at 2 3/4 lbs. Before packaging for shipment.
Please note: This is a vintage set and it is in very nice condition. There are no chips or cracks. Light wear commensurate with vintage age - circa 1970s.
