Vintage Moon & Stars Emerald Green Glass 8" Compote w/ Lid Large Round Jar w/ Lid Mid Century Jar - L E Smith Retro Kitchenware Home Decor

Sorry, this item has sold.

Beautiful vintage emerald green lidded heavy glass candy or storage jar that was made by L.E. Smith and is circa mid century. (See NOTE below for more about L.E. Smith Glass Co.) It is made from very thick ground glass and is quite heavy. Smith Glass began making this Moon and Stars pattern in 1940. It has since been discontinued.

The green jar has geometric designs with 2 rows of star shapes going around the sides of the large jar. There are a set of these smaller starbursts on the bottom edge of the short pedestal base.

The lid has a uniquely shaped knob at the very top. There are 12 starburst shapes around the lid.

There are bubbles that are there from production, typical of this type of glass from the mid century made by L.E. Smith.

The jar measures approx. 8" high with the lid on, and is about 6" in diameter at the center section. The top opening has a 6" diameter.

In nice vintage condition with no chips or no cracks in the glass on either the canister or the lid. However, the inside of the lid and rim is abraded from wear at the part where the lid fits into the canister - see photos.

The jar is quite heavy for its size weighing over 3 lbs. before packaging for shipping.

NOTE:
Smith Glass has been crafting handmade American-pressed glass since 1907. Known for creating the first headlight lens for the Model T Ford, and the original glass mixing bowl, Smith Glass company’s high-quality pieces play an important role in the tabletop, giftware, and lighting industries. Like all the other glass companies of the time, L.E. Smith began producing colored glass in the mid 1920’s. Pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt were being made as early as 1926.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
