Pair Vintage Gold LARGE Syroco Angels - 2 Syroco Wall Cherubs Wood French Provincial - Shabby Chic Mid Century - Syracuse Ornamental Wood Co

Sorry, this item has sold.

Two beautiful and ornate gold Syroco wall hangings that are cherubs or angels that are playing musical instruments. These are very mid century when this gold type of wall decor was all the rage. This set is unusually large for wall angels. Syroco items were made to look like metal or wood. See note below about Syroco.

The two angels are matching but one holds and plays a horn and one holds a harp or lyre. The gold cherubs wear flowing garb. They can face each other or face outward - your choice - and either way looks great.

The two vintage angels from the 1960s have hooks on the back of them for hanging. These are mid century wall decor items are rather large and as such, quite striking on the wall.

They are dated 1963 in Roman Numerals and have the copyright stamp of the Syroco Co. on the backs. You can still see the original stickers from the Syracuse Ornamental Wood Company on the backs of both as well.

They measure 14" high and are 10" across at widest part. The angels are about 2 1/2" deep.

The beauty of Syroco is that it is not heavy - each of these weighs 1 1/2 lbs. While items made of metal or wood may be hard to hang, Syroco is not.

In great vintage condition with original stickers in back. It looks like these were never used.

NOTE:
The Syracuse Ornamental Company, known as Syroco, was an American manufacturing company based in Syracuse, New York. They were best known for their molded wood-pulp products that resembled hand-carving.

Founded in Syracuse, New York in 1890 by immigrant Adolph Holstein, the Syracuse Ornamental Company (Syroco) specialized in decorative wood carving, especially for the local residential market. Products included fireplace mantelpieces and other types of interior decoration popular in late Victorian homes. To meet increasing market demand and sales opportunities Holstein developed a material looked and felt like wood but that which could be shaped, allowing multiple pieces to be produced through a molding process. The new product, which combined wood pulp brought from the Adirondacks with flour as a binder and other materials to give it strength, was extruded and then cut to fit compression molds, which had were made from original carvings in real wood.

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them.
