LARGE Antique Sheffield Silver Plate Etched Serving Bowl Tray w/ Lid - EPNS Round Openwork - Hallmarked Retro Vintage Kitchen Entertaining

A wonderful vintage silver plate round serving piece with a wide rim and a center bowl with a cover made by Sheffield Silver of Brooklyn NY. Sheffield Silver was Incorporated in 1908, and the trademark was registered in 1919.

This two-piece silver plate serving bowl has a unique openwork lattice cover for the center area - this area is a round depression. The cover or lid has a round knob on the top that has a flat base and comes to a point at the very top.

The sides of this serving bowl are etched with what looks like a very Victorian design that features 6 ornately decorated ovals with garland that goes around the ovals and then hangs down below them. Between each of these etched ovals is an etched vertical design of swirls and curls. On the very outer rim is a 1/4" wide band of embossed decorative edging that has a row of tiny dots and then a running vine of leaves and flowers that goes all around this vintage tray.

There is a short but wide pedestal base under this wide rimmed bowl with the lid. It has EPNS, pictorial hallmarks of a man's head, a crown, the "S" for Sheridan. Under that are the numbers 023.

I believe this hallmark for the Sheridan Silver Company dates this centerpiece to the early 1900s.

Measurements:
Out rim - 12" diameter
Inner bowl - 7" diameter
Lid - 7" diameter and it is 2" high
Pedestal Base - 5" diameter and is about 1 1/2" high.
Height - 4 1/2" to the top of the knob on the lid, about 3 1/2" high without the lid on

In nice antique condition with wear commensurate with vintage/antique age. Note the patina, especially on the underside and wear as would be expected a vintage item of this age in the photos.
