Jeanette Green & Blue Glass Wedding Cake Box - Candy Jar or Compote w/ Lid - Flashed Glass Pedestal Dish w/ Square Panes - Mid century Jar

Jeanette Square blue and green Glass Clear Candy Dish, Candy Jar or Wedding Cake Box from the 1960-70s. This piece has a unique square shape on the top section as well as on the base. A distinct finial is on the top and center pedestal section complete this jar's design. The jar is a bright green and blue and is flashed glass. This process was used in the art glass trade as a cheaper method of making colored glass. The process involves putting a thin coating of color on a base of clear glass. When finished, a flashed glass piece was practically indistinguishable from solid color glass. The blue and green colors used in flash were commonly used - like this handsome little cake box lidded jar.

This type of glass box was traditionally meant for the bride and groom to be able to take a piece of wedding cake home. It could be used for the same for any wedding today and would also make a great candy dish or home decor accent piece.

Measures 6" high with the lid on. It is about 4 1/2" high without the lid on. Base has 2 1/3" sides.

In good vintage condition with no chips or cracks - slight wear to the green abs blue flash on the bottom of the square bowl that is commensurate with an item that is from the mid century. See photos for detail.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
