Mid century Lightolier Atomic Hanging Ceiling Light Glass Retro Lighting w/ Egg Shape by Gerald Thurston Copper & Brass Finish Retractable

Sorry, this item has sold.

A large, long and very mid century copper and brass toned metal hanging light fixture made by the Lightolier Company that is circa 1950s-1960s. I believe this is a Gerald Thurston design. The Lightolier label is still intact on the inner top portion of this overhead retractable lamp from the Eames Era.

The retro lighting fixture features copper and brass toned metal pieces as well as a fabulous glass globe that is rounded and flat. The glass on the globe piece has tiny dots in rows all over it.

This lamp was made as a retractable lamp, and the pull down handle is a wood piece that hangs from the very bottom. The cable for the retractable lamp would need to be redone as it old, worn, and no longer retracts.

This large Eames Era hanging fixture has several sections to it, making it a real eye catcher.

Beginning at the top, there is a round disk that goes flush with the ceiling. Below that disc is an oval egg shaped piece and then under that is the wide copper colored shade. Under the wide shade is a brass colored “cage” that is made in an inverted “V” shape. Below that is the shade over the glass globe. The shade top section has a perforated collar band that flares outward. Under this is a brass disc that holds the globe in place with a perforated brass colored band / collar at the bottom. Under this is a circular piece that has a flat top but is rounded on the bottom. There is a switch to twist that would turn the light on or off under this. The wooden pull handle is below this piece - the switch is at the top above the wooden handle.

Two of the original stickers are inside the top disc - see photos for detail. One is pretty legible (the Electrical Workers Union verification) and the other is not - the green one.

The glass globe measures about. It has tiny dots all over it.

This retro hanging lamp holds three light bulbs.

This light fixture was a retractable one at the time. It needs to be rewired as it has the original wiring, and the retractable cord need to be replaced.

Approximate Measurements:
length - 26"
diameter of the copper shade - 21"
diameter of glass globe - 10 1/2"

This amazing copper and brass tone light fixture with a wooden pull handle at the bottom is in nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. The light does not work and needs to be rewired, and it no longer retracts.

The glass “globe” is in great condition with no chips or cracks.

NOTE: There is wear to the electrical cord - it is an old style and would need to be replaced.

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
