Antique English Spirit Tea Kettle / Silver Plate Teapot on Stand - Victorian Serving Retro Entertaining Vintage Kitchen Home Decor

$71.25

Sorry, this item has sold.

A late Victorian silver plate spirit kettle with an ebony wood handle and round ebony wood knob on the lid. This piece is hallmarked on the bottom of the tea kettle and also on the bottom of the holder for the burner. I am unable to decipher the marks other than the text MADE IN ENGLAND. The number 3 is marked on the bottom of the kettle as well.

The surface of the kettle is plain and has a domed hinged lid. There is an ebony finial on the top of the lid. This antique tea kettle has a plain rounded handle with a wood center hand piece.

The kettle detaches from the stand, supported by four legs that end with plain round feet. There are two chains with pegs that fit into two fittings on the stand that keep the kettle in place. The stand has a plain frame which holds the original detachable spirit burner. The stand has the two fittings at the front and back of the kettle where the security pegs are attached.

Approx. Measurements:
tea kettle - 10" wide from end of spout to other side. 8" high to top of handle.
stand - 4" high and 7 1/2" wide.
total height - 11 1/4"

This kettle holds five cups comfortably.

NOTE:
This type of kettle was called a spirit kettle because the burner under it used spirits to fuel a flame. A spirit kettle was used for brewing and was used to replenish hot water into a teapot for serving. Teapots at that time were usually small, and therefore the teapot needed to be refilled frequently. This one is a simple classic shape and is made of silver plate.

In nice antique condition with slight patina and some wear commensurate with antique age, especially on the sides of the spout. There is a small ding on the one side of the antique kettle, and a small scratch in another area - see photos for detail.

And still a lovely spirit kettle with lots of shine from the 1800s or early 1900s!
